I've been playing on Protocol for forever, and I've never really noticed a problem with it before. However, I just recently started PvPing, and I noticed a problem. People really don't understand the PvP concept, and usually throw a fit upon death. I just wanted to address people's main problems with PvP.
Now, before I get started, I have just a few things to say. This thread was not meant to offend anyone. If you feel offended, I'm sorry, but I hope you get what I'm poking at.
Also, I know, I haven't followed some of these guidelines myself. I am trying to be better, but to be honest, I think it'd be easier if we as a community changed.
So, let's get started.
Why PvP?
It seems kind of odd. Why would you want to go on a server where you could be killed at any moment, potentially losing all of your hard earned diamonds and equipment? It's simple. People go on PvP servers for extra challenge. PvP stands for player versus player. Basically, it's a challenge to see who can thrive the most while battling it out against other players. By going on a PvP server, you gotta understand a few things. Yes, people aren't always nice, yes, you could lose everything in a raid or a killing, and yes, you may be frustrated to the point of rage quitting. That's PvP. However, if you want the best experience, I have one guideline: keep your cool. Have fun with it.
I don't like dying!
Unfortunately, that's gonna happen. That's the way the server works, and there's nothing you can do to change it. However, there are a few things you can do to make your server experience more enjoyable for you:
1.) Don't freak out.
I know, it isn't easy. You just lost everything, and you want to lash out at your attacker. That's normal. But keep it to yourself. Think about it. Say you ask for your stuff back. Is the person gonna give it back to you if you're swearing and insulting them? No, that persons likely gonna make it a point to keep coming back to you. Believe me, it's difficult at the time, but it makes a large difference in the long run.
Besides, if you ask politely, you might even get your stuff back!
2.) Go out and PvP yourself.
I dunno about you guys, but it's easier for me to lose my full iron set if I have four more stashed at home. And how do you get those other sets? Go out and PvP yourself! It's fun, and it's a great way to get yourself some snazzy equipment. Plus, you don't mind PvP as much if you do it yourself.
3.) Stash your stuff!
People often forget to do this, but it's so easy and makes the loss so much more bearable. If you're not using it, put it in a chest! Now that stuff is safe at home and you can go running into a PvP warzone with no worries.
This guy keeps attacking me!
Yeah, I know, it can be frustrating if you get attacked every 20 minutes, but that's gonna happen. Just be prepared! Either don't carry so much stuff around, or arm yourself. Have a couple of poison potions and ender pearls in your hot bar in case of a surprise attack.
Also, I just wanna point something out. If you don't whine after getting killed, people respect you more. So if you notice they keep coming back, politely ask them to leave. Maybe they'll leave because you asked so nicely. Just keep in mind that no one is obliged to stop attacking.
However, if someone is excessively killing you (over three kills in an hour), that is against the rules. That you can complain and report for. Although, one thing I've noticed is people teleport back and start ganging up on the guy who killed them. If you attack them first, they're allowed to fight back, and it won't towards overkilling.
Whenever I try to build, I get killed and lose all my materials!
Yep, that happens, but remember, don't complain! This is player versus player. You are competing against others to thrive, and that person isn't gonna sit back while you build your 5000 block My Little Pony pixel art. Just expect an attack at all times. Build with your armour on if you feel it's necesarry.
That guy broke his peace treaty with me!
Ouch. That sucks. Unfortunately, it's just a part of competition. People don't always play fair. Keep in mind though, that person has basically said that we're enemies now, so go out and get back at them! Who knows, maybe they haven't stashed your stuff yet, so you can get not only your stuff but theirs too.
I only play on Protocol because of *insert reason*. I don't want to PvP!
Not much you can do about that. Either you'll have to learn to deal with it, or you may have to find a different server. If you want, I could recommend you some good PvE servers.
Conclusion
So, that's pretty much it. Those are all the things I've noticed going on in the server regarding PvP, however I may have missed a few issues. Please, if you have anything to say for or against PvP, put it in the comments, however, please don't flame.
Just remember people, this is Minecraft. Like all other games, don't take it too seriously, and have fun! Let's make Protocol a happier community, alright?
Welcome to Protocol!
